The Shorty Awards
Thanks to Twitter and the amazing Houston foodie scene, I’ve been nominated for the Shorty Awards.
If you’re not familiar with The Shorty Awards, you’re not alone. I just found out about it a week or two ago. Basically, it’s a big award ceremony in NYC for the best Twitter users in certain categories.
“Hollywood has the Oscars. Broadway has the Tonys. Now Twitter has the…Shorty Awards” – New York Times
The image below shows the top 6 in the running for the Food category. (Yes, I know David Archuleta is on the list. Don’t ask.)
I’ve got roughly 1400 Twitter followers currently. If that sounds like a lot, please note that the other five folks on the list have between 7400 to 150,000 followers. And only existing Twitter users can vote.
The cool part is, the top 5 that place (whenever the voting stops) are headed to NYC to be judged by a panel which includes M.C. Hammer.
No, I am not making that up.
If you’re a Twitter user and you haven’t voted for me yet, you can do it here. (Note: If you leave the “reason” blank, the vote won’t be counted. )
A free trip to the Big Apple would be pretty awesome.
Also, I’d really like to thank everyone who has voted for me so far. You guys have really made my week.
Your fellow taco hunter,
G&T

I ended up in 7th place, one spot down from the 6 finalists. I got booted out by Anthony Bourdain. But hey, it was fun. Thanks for the votes!

David Archuleta is great but for me, the best is still Kelly Clarkson,.”
